It’s been a hard few weeks. SnowdomeKing’s father is very ill (we are hoping he makes it through to Xmas) and we’ve just come back from a weekend spent with him and his wife – who tragically is going through this a second time… she lost her 1st husband to the same illness. It’s hard to see such a tall, bright, vital man fade away. Anyway, SDK and I kept him amused with stories of the past – SDK brought back memories of his childhood and the times he and his father spent in Port Pirie with the rest of the family. It was good to see a smile on Pop’s face and it gave his wife a few hours free from care, which is what it’s all about really innit? Personal things have taken a backward step as we go full-pelt into caring for Pop during his last days… caring in the sense of visiting every weekend, phoning every day, that kind of thing. On top of that SDK’s brother – who’s a CFS firefighter – has just been called away to fight the fires on KI which is causing him a little bit of angst as he doesn’t want to be away from his father (understandably – things are a day-by-day proposition at the moment, SDK’s brother lives near Pop so he’s been going there every day) but we’ve promised him we’ll be there any time day or night when and if needed.
While we were down there we found a brilliant Lebanese restaurant in Victor called Jameelah’s – it’s only been open a couple of weeks. We were the only 2 in there so we were able to spend time chatting to the owner who kept mysteriously disappearing then reappearing from the front of the shop next door. We’re assuming he owns that as well (it was a fish and chip place) but we didn’t get around to asking. ANYWAY the food at Jameelah’s is excellent and very reasonably priced – we ate everything bar the lettuce leaves at the bottom of the plate… not a fan of lettuce myself, especially when it’s soaked in chickpea juice.
Now, I must get back on the horse and restart Snowdome of the Week! My next addition will be my fabulous Washington DC globe with it’s monuments and light-up White House complete with American flag. So tasteful!
SR I must consult you in a professional capacity re the corned beef debacle of a few weeks ago. I shall do so today.
Peace to all this Xmas! If you are in any way inclined to do so send up a prayer for Pop. And maybe for SDK while you’re at it! If you;re not so inclined have a drink for him – he loves Stout. I personally would prefer to drink cold coffee with 10 teaspoons of salt in it but there you go!

I feel quite out of sorts today. Perhaps it’s chocolate withdrawal. Perhaps the lack of food (I’m watching my weight). Perhaps losing my favorite ring. Perhaps presenting an incredibly tough corned silverside for dinner, despite labouring over it for hours last night, was the thing that sealed my fate. Who knows? As I am not much good to anyone this morning Snowdome of the Week will be held over for another 24 hours while I sort through the collection to pick a suitable candidate… one bright moment is watching my bid on Ebay for an Australia Zoo snowdome sit steadily at $8.50 so that may well be this week’s winner!
Oh but I do have my Macky D coffee sitting alongside me offering comfort! There, I feel better already!

Ah, what a beauty! Plus it has a lovely story behind it.
My nephew’s gorgeous girlfriend bought this for me for Xmas last year, after asking all sorts of questions including “what’s your favorite Disney movie?” As you may have gathered, it’s Alice in Wonderland. She knows how much I love my snowdomes, and she thought combining Favorite Disney Movie + Snowdome would be just about the best present she could buy me. So she ordered it, and proudly presented it to me beautifully wrapped Xmas day. I just about lost it – I was so touched by her thoughtfulness that I shed more than one tear!
Is this not magnificent! And not only is it beautiful to look at but it plays the theme from the movie and when a switch is flicked… the Cheshire Cat’s grin illuminates! Paroxysms of delight in the eastern suburbs – a year down the track I still can’t get enough of flicking that switch on and off!

It’s been quite a weekend… commencing with a visit to Murray Bridge and ending with a hungover husband. Along the way, we visited my Best Friend (henceforth to be known as, wittily enough, BF); went to a 50th birthday party where I sat next to my husband’s former wife; worked out how to use a brand new Saeco cappucino maker; had breakfast that consisted of chops, bacon and toast which proved the undoing for Smokey (my husband) following a night of drinking that involved beer, champagne, red wine and rose; visited my father-in-law and watched a dog eat bubbles.
Luckily, I had my camera out at the time and filmed said dog eating said bubbles. This dog is going to make me – oh, and let me not forget the dog’s owner, this not being myself – large amounts of money when the folk at Australia’s Funniest Home Videos see this piece of footage. Hilarious? I’m still crying!
Snowdome Of The Week is held over till tomorrow evening – I have yet to decide which will next make the list. In the meantime, I am off to find the AFHV website so I can start my road to fame and riches.

Behold my latest addition – a snowdome from Dubai – courtesy of a dear former workmate who has collected domes for me on her various travels around the world. One does not readily associate snow and Dubai which makes this piece extra special. (Note the bemused look on the camel’s face.)
