It’s been a hard few weeks. SnowdomeKing’s father is very ill (we are hoping he makes it through to Xmas) and we’ve just come back from a weekend spent with him and his wife – who tragically is going through this a second time… she lost her 1st husband to the same illness. It’s hard to see such a tall, bright, vital man fade away. Anyway, SDK and I kept him amused with stories of the past – SDK brought back memories of his childhood and the times he and his father spent in Port Pirie with the rest of the family. It was good to see a smile on Pop’s face and it gave his wife a few hours free from care, which is what it’s all about really innit? Personal things have taken a backward step as we go full-pelt into caring for Pop during his last days… caring in the sense of visiting every weekend, phoning every day, that kind of thing. On top of that SDK’s brother – who’s a CFS firefighter – has just been called away to fight the fires on KI which is causing him a little bit of angst as he doesn’t want to be away from his father (understandably – things are a day-by-day proposition at the moment, SDK’s brother lives near Pop so he’s been going there every day) but we’ve promised him we’ll be there any time day or night when and if needed.
While we were down there we found a brilliant Lebanese restaurant in Victor called Jameelah’s – it’s only been open a couple of weeks. We were the only 2 in there so we were able to spend time chatting to the owner who kept mysteriously disappearing then reappearing from the front of the shop next door. We’re assuming he owns that as well (it was a fish and chip place) but we didn’t get around to asking. ANYWAY the food at Jameelah’s is excellent and very reasonably priced – we ate everything bar the lettuce leaves at the bottom of the plate… not a fan of lettuce myself, especially when it’s soaked in chickpea juice.
Now, I must get back on the horse and restart Snowdome of the Week! My next addition will be my fabulous Washington DC globe with it’s monuments and light-up White House complete with American flag. So tasteful!
SR I must consult you in a professional capacity re the corned beef debacle of a few weeks ago. I shall do so today.
Peace to all this Xmas! If you are in any way inclined to do so send up a prayer for Pop. And maybe for SDK while you’re at it! If you;re not so inclined have a drink for him – he loves Stout. I personally would prefer to drink cold coffee with 10 teaspoons of salt in it but there you go!
